Pakistan has expressed optimism over ongoing efforts to secure an agreement between the United States and Iran, with the Foreign Office saying on Thursday that Islamabad is hopeful a settlement could be reached soon through diplomatic engagement.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, speaking during the weekly briefing, said Pakistan would welcome any agreement between Washington and Tehran, regardless of where it is finalized. “If an agreement is reached in Pakistan, it would be an honour for us,” he remarked, while noting that he could not confirm whether the proposed deal would be in the form of a one-page document or a more detailed framework.

His comments come amid reports of renewed momentum in US-Iran contacts, including indications that Tehran is reviewing a fresh American proposal following a temporary pause in “Project Freedom,” a US-led initiative linked to securing shipping access through the Strait of Hormuz.

The spokesperson recalled that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had already welcomed the suspension of the project and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting restraint and peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue. He added that Pakistan continues to advocate diplomacy as the primary path toward regional stability.

Andrabi further stated that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has remained engaged with international counterparts in recent days, maintaining contact to encourage continued dialogue between the two sides.

According to recent developments, indirect and direct communication channels between Washington and Tehran have shown cautious progress, with reports suggesting that both sides may be close to a preliminary memorandum of understanding that could pave the way for broader nuclear negotiations.

However, key differences remain unresolved, particularly over Iran’s nuclear programme, restrictions on enrichment activities, and guarantees regarding maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite these challenges, Pakistan has reiterated its willingness to facilitate diplomatic engagement, positioning itself as a mediator and supporter of peaceful resolution in a conflict that has broader regional and global implications.
